Batalha Monastery

This monastery is magnificent, with its high-vaulted ceilings and stain glass windows which, when visited at the right time of the day, have the sun pouring through spreading colour over the walls and floor, then there are the cloisters, shadowy and cool, and in the centre, the tombs ofDom João I and his wife, Queen Philippa of Lancaster.  Interested to know more?  Here is a good place to start (scroll page down to read fuller description: http://whc.unesco.org/en/list/264
